Another one of our amazing aerialist stories comes to you from Kristy, who has been a part of Aerial CLT for over a year now! Read on for Kristy's awesome story!
When did you start taking classes at Aerial CLT?
I took one aerial silks class in January of 2015. Honestly, I felt intimidated by it, but I still loved the idea of being in the air. So, I took aerial strength and yoga classes for a while, and then re-explored silks in April of 2015 and hoop shortly thereafter (May). I have been taking classes, regularly, since that time.
Have you noticed any physical changes since starting classes at Aerial CLT? If so, what have you noticed?
Not only have I gotten stronger, overall, but aerial has also helped me to pinpoint and f...
By day, I’m a corporate auditor at a national bank. I wear button-down shirts and heels. I go to meetings. I drink coffee. I sit in traffic and then I come home. I’ve done this for years now, and I will presumably continue to do it for many more years to come. Even though I enjoy my job and I feel thankful to have it, it doesn’t exactly give me a lot of room to stretch my legs and breathe.
When I heard about the chance to perform at an AerialCLTshowcase, a tiny little seed planted in my brain. That seed had a simple message: “?” As in, me? Now? Can I? Am I good enough? Where would I even start? And for a while, that seed stayed put right where it was.
The funny thing about seeds is that given the right set of circum...
We know you've seen the photos of your boyfriend's best friend's girlfriend's sister doing aerial silks on Facebook and you thought to yourself "OOO! I would LOVE to try that!" Then life happens and you snap out of your day dream. Well, come out of the shadows of your day-to-day, gingerly step back into your day dream, and consider these 6 reasons to try an aerial class. We would also love to add to that "at AerialCLT". But really, any aerial is better than no aerial so long as you find a responsible, safety oriented trainer to work with.
6 Reasons to Try Aerial Classes (at AerialCLT)
1. Meet awesome people.
Our AerialCLT tribe is made up of some pretty incredible people from all walks of life. We’ve got local business owner...
Everyone does it. We all have that thing, or even things, we tell ourselves. We don’t think about what we’re doing to ourselves. If you’ve ever read Don Miguel’s The Four Agreements (If you haven’t read this book, it’s a great read!), you’ll recognize where I’m coming from. When you tell yourself things like “I can’t do that,” you’re making it a reality. You’re agreeing to allow that particular thing to be part of your life.
I’m not saying this with judgement, I’m just as guilty as anyone else. I’ve come up with a list of things that I have told myself and that I have heard from students that if we remove from our lives, we would thrive greatly!
These are the silly, cliche statements I heard from my momma the past month while I frustratingly cried to her over the phone. My responses were usually something witty, like “well if a better door opens then how come everyone doesn’t walk around slamming doors shut?!”
She didn’t get where I was coming from…
The past month has been one of the scariest of my life. It was confirmed that our landlord would be leasing our space to another business, we had 30 days to find another home.
This wasn’t a huge surprise to me. I figured this was very probable and I had been seriously searching for a new space for the past 6 months with a won...
On New Year’s Eve in 2013, I stood, mesmerized, in a crowd of dancing club kids in a neon-lit room, watching this sexy muscular woman in a bodysuit climb and drop on the silks right beside the DJ on stage. I didn’t even know what I was watching but I said, “I want to do that.” I found the aerialist and asked her how long she had been training, “Three years,” she exalted! Dang… I’ve got three years until I can do that?
And then there was that internal silence… you know, that quick, quiet moment when you decide whether this is something you really want to work hard for or not.
I started taking Intro to Silks at AerialCLT in late January of 2015, advanced to intermediate around April and just recently completed a year of practicing t...
As an aerialist, I’m always trying to find fun, funky tights to wear when I train. When I initially began looking to expand my “aerial wardrobe” I assumed it would be easy to find leggings/tights for men. However, I was quickly proved wrong. Instead of keeping my search to just “men’s leggings”, I began exploring options such as compression tights, running tights, and even various styles of tights. After much trial and error, I was able to find a few different types that worked for me. YAY!
Before I delve into what leggings/tights are my absolute favorites, let’s cover what you should look for when purchasing tights for aerial:
Tights must be able to move with you. What I mean by that, is that the tights must be able to stre...
Even the best aerialists all started in the same place: we’ve all been in our very first class, and we all have memories of that moment. It can seem intimidating to walk into, but the curriculum at AerialCLT is designed very thoughtfully and caters to the experience of the individual student. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, we all start with the very basics in the first class. You won’t be going upside down. You won’t be climbing to the top. What you WILL do is get a really solid foundation of ways to hang and wrap in the fabric, which we will continue to build on. And you’ll learn a move or two!
2. … but you’ll work hard!
With that being said, you’ll still get a good workout in your first...
